hypnosisHow to Hypnotise Yourself - Self Hypnosis for Change

All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.  Even when a trained hypnotist is guiding you into a hypnotic state you are actually the one in control.  You are hypnotising yourself by following the instructions given to you.

Hypnosis is a perfectly natural state which everyone dips into many times a day.  Most people experience a trance-like state many times in everyday life - although they may not call it hypnosis. For example, if you've ever drifted off into a daydream or become totally engrossed in a book or project you have been in a hypnotic state.

Also if you’ve ever arrived by car at your destination without any memory of getting there you have been in a hypnotic state.   This is a well known phenomenon which goes by the name of highway hypnosis.

The dreamy space you are in every night just before sleeping is called the hypnogogic state and the delicious dreamy morning time you experience before you fully awaken is known as the hypnopompic state.  Both of these times are natural everyday states of hypnosis and as the restful dreamy state is already present these are good times to use self-hypnosis.

The main difference between the natural trances you dip in to each day and deliberate self-hypnosis are specific motivation and suggestions towards a goal. Self-hypnosis is deliberate and with a purpose.

Hypnosis can be described as a state of mind in which suggestions are acted upon much more powerfully than is possible under normal conditions.  When your eyes are closed to outside stimulus and the mind and body are restful and at peace your brainwaves naturally slow down to the ‘Alpha Level.’

In normal waking life your brain waves are at the ‘Beta Level.’  ‘Beta Level’ brainwaves are produced in the left-hemisphere and are associated with the ‘conscious mind.’  When you in a ‘Beta Level’ state you have lots of mind chatter going on.

During ‘Alpha Level’ times you are more open and receptive to suggestion.  In this state the critical faculty of the conscious mind is bypassed and suggestions can be passed directly to the subconscious mind which will accept them readily.

The above is just as true for Clinical hypnosis as for self-hypnosis.  In a therapeutic setting the hypnotherapist is there to guide the client into hypnosis but this can just as easily be done at home or using hypnotherapy CD’s or tapes.

During a one to one session Christine can teach you how to hypnotise yourself. She can teach you a simple and easy method of relaxing both your body and mind in a very short time and she can also teach you a technique to enable you to use the hypnotic state to make changes within your life. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, by allowing yourself to become relaxed you can enter a state of hypnosis at will and use the techniques you have learned to change outcomes for the better.
